Whether you’re proud of your Irish roots, or just a die-hard Shamrock Shake fan, this post is for you! Personally, I fall into both categories. My heritage is mostly Scotch-Irish so I am always down with any celebration of those cultures. And I used to LOVE those infamous Shamrock Shakes! Basically, I love mint-flavored anything.

Unfortunately, the typical Shamrock Shake is not so great if you’re trying to stick to health goals. Did you know a 16 ounce (medium) Shamrock Shake contains up to 660 calories and 93 grams of sugar?! Plus, there’s 19 grams of fat, 76 milligrams of cholesterol and 210 milligrams of sodium.

We have a history, hard water stains and me. When I was growing up there was a time my family lived in an old farmhouse with a well and our water was so hard that it deposited reddish stains on our sinks, tubs, clothes, and even hair. These mineral deposits were hard to clean – even with strong chemical cleaners. I hated those stupid hard water stains!

I can remember one time when I was about 13 or 14 and it was my job to clean the family bathroom. I was determined to get the hard water stains off of the tub and shower. I used one of those scrubby sponges, powered cleaner, and I went to town. After much scrubbing, the tub and shower looked white again! I was pretty pleased with myself. The only problem was the scrubby sponge I used was so abrasive that it completely ruined the finish on the tub and the shower. Oops. (Sorry, mom!) Lately, we’ve been so.very.busy. So I’m thankful for quick and easy snacks that are still nutritious! We love to make protein bites – we like to make big double batches and stick them in the freezer and pretend that they will last us a while. They usually don’t. But that’s okay, because these little bites of deliciousness are healthy and filling!

 

Gather your ingredients: rolled oats, Shaklee life shake, unsweetened shredded coconut, ground flax meal, pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin puree, & honey

These protein bites are chock-full of goodness:

  • pumpkin – because it’s fall – who doesn’t love pumpkin?

  • as much or as little pumpkin pie spice as you like
  • unsweetened shredded coconut
