Hello again!

It’s been a long time since I posted anything. A long time since I’ve been active online. I’ve been a bit preoccupied, but I feel like today is a good day to officially let everyone in on our family’s news…

We are expecting a….

baby girl

Soon! Sometime before the end of winter / beginning of spring. We are SO excited and I still can hardly believe our family will soon include a little lady! :)

A special thank you to our friends and family who helped us keep our little secret!  As soon as I found out I was pregnant I felt such a strong need for privacy. I’m already an introvert and for some reason this pregnancy amplified my need for space and solitude. We kept Ace a secret until I was halfway through pregnancy and planned to do at least the same with this one. Then, 20 weeks came and went and I still wasn’t really showing and didn’t feel ready to share. The holidays came roaring in and Dave’s busiest season of work hit and finding the time to post an announcement was the last thing on my mind!

But here we are. Thrilled and still a bit in disbelief! 2017 is going to be a busy, but exciting year for us. And I hope to post online a little more often. Trying to find a balance that feels just right. :)

Matcha Lime Protein Smoothie Bowl

I’ve been eyeing smoothie bowl pics and recipes for a while now… Kind of curious and kind of confused, ya know? Is it a smoothie? Is it a soup? A pudding? What makes it so different than a regular smoothie?

Turns out I was overthinking it.

Basically it’s just a smoothie. In a bowl. The only real difference is a “smoothie bowl” is thicker than a regular smoothie.

Since I’m totally down with anything thick, creamy, and pudding-y, I’m completely on board with smoothie bowls! Turns out, I’m a smoothie bowl pro – I’m always adding wayyy too many thick ingredients to my smoothies and often end up eating them with a spoon anyway. All I’ve been missing is the bowl and pretty toppings!

This smoothie bowl is completely inspired by Oh She Glows’s fantastic recipe. I tweaked the proportions to suit my tastes and added my favorite protein to up the nutritional punch. (I also doubled the recipe when I made it; however, the following recipe is for one serving.)

Matcha Lime Protein Smoothie Bowl

Ingredients

Serves 1  |   Yield: 2 cups /  1 bowl   |   Prep time: 10 min

  • 3/4 cup coconut water
  • 1 scoop (3 TB) Life Energizing Shake protein powder
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1 large banana
  • 1/4 cup avocado
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 to 3 ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon Matcha green tea powder and/or 1 packet Shaklee 180 Energizing Matcha Green Tea

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend on high until completely smooth. (Consistency should be that of a very thick smoothie… So thick you need a spoon! 😉 ) Adjust sweetness if needed.
  • Pour into a bowl and add toppings of choice. Eat with a spoon and enjoy! :)

Topping Ideas

  • granola
  • sliced banana
  • sliced mango
  • melted coconut oil
  • shredded coconut
  • hemp hearts
  • lime zest

10 Things Motherhood Made Me Forget

1. My Age

When I was growing up my brothers and sisters and I would occasionally ask my mom how old she was. She would pause and start mentally tallying, sometimes thinking for a good 5-10 seconds before replying. I thought it was so funny that she couldn’t just rattle off how old she was. All I could think was “How in the world can you forget your age?” Turns out having a kid is how. (And frankly, once you can’t count your age on your fingers or count down how many years until driving, legal drinking, etc, there’s just not a lot of incentive to keep track.) A while ago I posted about how our family has made some adjustments this year to improve our finances. One of those adjustments was canceling our gym membership. Eeeeek.

You guys, I’ve always liked going to the gym. Maybe because I grew up going to dance classes all the time. It just felt natural to go to a designated dance/workout location and focus all my energies on physical fitness for a couple hours, and then go home.

So when we made the decision to cancel our gym membership I was a little nervous. Granted, I hadn’t been using our gym membership much (having a toddler seems to cut back on free time… funny how that works), but I still was hesitant to cancel it. Paying for that membership every month was like a reminder to work out and make that gym payment worthwhile! Part of me felt like canceling the gym membership meant canceling physical fitness.  Continue reading “Tiny Adventures – Working Out at Home”
